Over four years after the shooting, Knight is suing West and the Shore Club's owners, contending that their security wasn't able to prevent weapons from being brought inside the venue. Per Knight's lawyer, Marc Brumer, Knight had hospital bills of $200, 000 and is seeking upwards $1 million in damages.

"He's an icon in the music industry. He walks in a room and he lights it up," Brumer told Billboard. "He had an expectation of security there. How someone came with a gun into a very VIP party, that just doesn't meet the smell test in life."

The trial is scheduled to begin December 6  in Miami.
